Successful Bronchial/ Airway Foreign body removal using a fogarthy's catheter

An interesting case of Foreign Body (Drunk Foreign Body!) History: 25-year-old male presented to the Emergency department with Hemoptysis. History of binge alcohol intake 3 days prior to the episode No comorbidities or any significant past history. CT Chest: s/o conical Foreign body with narrower end distally impacted in the left lower lobe. Procedure: Flexible Bronchoscopy (in OT with rigid as standby) was performed under sedation. Foreign body visualized impacted in the left lower lobe posterior segment. It was conical in shape with a small distal opening. Fogarthy catheter (4Fr) was passed beyond the opening- inflated and the body was pulled out till the carina. Rat tooth forceps were used to pull out the foreign body. Foreign body: Distal part of the pen used to cover the refill The patient recovered well and went home the same day. Learning Point: - In case of hollow cylindrical/ conical Foreign body which is impacted in the bronchus Fogarty catheter can be used.
