#WestDelhi #Vivekvihar #Delhipolice #Delhicrime #AATS A sensational incident unfolded on the streets of Delhi late Tuesday night when a direct confrontation took place between the West District Anti Auto Theft Squad (AATS) of Delhi Police and a gang of notorious inter-state car thieves in the Vivek Vihar area. The high-risk operation, which lasted for several tense minutes, led to panic in the area and left local residents shaken. According to police sources, there had been a sharp rise in cases of high-end vehicle theft across Delhi and the NCR over the past few months. During the investigation, police found that a white Kia Seltos fitted with fake registration plates was repeatedly being used in these crimes. Based on this input, the AATS team of West District had been keeping the gang under close technical surveillance and field monitoring. On the intervening night of January 15 and 16, around 11 pm, police received specific information that the suspicious Kia Seltos had been spotted near the Vivek Vihar ITI underpass. Acting swiftly, the police team laid a trap and attempted to stop the vehicle. Realising they were surrounded, the accused tried to flee and used the car itself as a weapon. Eyewitnesses said the accused rammed their vehicle into police cars and also hit vehicles parked along the roadside, creating chaos and putting the lives of ordinary citizens at serious risk. Police officials stated that the driver deliberately tried to run over policemen in an attempt to escape. During this dangerous manoeuvre, two police personnel were injured and were immediately shifted to GTB Hospital for medical treatment. Despite the injuries to their colleagues, the police team showed courage and restraint. They tightened the cordon around the vehicle and, after a tough struggle, managed to overpower and arrest all three accused. The arrested men have been identified as Mashrur (56), Asif (42) and Aqeel (40), all residents of Uttar Pradesh. Preliminary investigation revealed that the Kia Seltos they were using was itself a stolen vehicle and had been used in several car theft cases. Police have registered a case and further interrogation is underway. Officials believe the arrest will significantly help curb high-end vehicle theft cases in the capital.
