All hell breaks loose in the home half of the 2nd inning on a shit call from 3rd base umpire Steve Rippley as Pitcher Soto ejected for arguing a apparent home run hit by Cey, which was called foul by Rippley as Soto bumped umpire during argument; the call was reversed and Cubs manager Frey was also ejected by HP umpire Paul Runge as Soto was led back to the bench, a Wrigley Field vendor hit Soto with a cup of ice; Soto was suspended for 5 days as both teams played under protest the delay for the brawl was 35min and plenty ejections on both sides soon follow Dennis Eckersley (0-1) pitches a complete game with great control in his Cub debut but on the losing end going 9 inning giving up 4 runs on 9 hits striking out 3 while walking just 1 Reds starter/reliver Bruce Berenyi (2-4) with the win pitching the 8th and 9th inning as the Reds break the 3-3 tie in the 9th inning on a RBI single from 3B Wayne Krenchicki scoring C Brad Gulden who doubled to start the inning Boxscore
