Bareilly violence: ‘10 FIRs filed, 8 arrested, 22 policemen injured,’ says SSP

On violence in Bareilly amid 'I love Muhammad row', SSP Anurag Arya said Saturday that 10 FIRs have been registered so far. 'Eight accused have been arrested and sent to judicial custody... The police tried to handle the situation peacefully, but the crowd tried to break barricades and attacked the police with stones. A heavy quantity of rocks and stones have been recovered...blades, pistols and cartridges, and broken glass bottles which smell like petrol.' He added: 'Further investigation is underway. CCTV footage, manual and technical intelligence will be used to identify all those involved. 22 policemen were injured in yesterday's violence. Some of them have doubtful firearm injuries. Their final medical tests are underway. It is definite that the protestors resorted to firing.
