From 1990 through 2025, the center of global cellphone manufacturing changed significantly. In the early years, production was led by countries such as Japan, the United States, and Finland, but this leadership gradually shifted toward East Asia. South Korea first rose as a major force, followed by China, which became the world’s leading producer in the 2000s due to its massive factories and strong export networks. More recently, countries like India and Vietnam have grown in importance, driven by foreign investment and supportive government policies. While manufacturing moved eastward, many Western nations redirected their efforts toward innovation, design, and software. Overall, production has spread across more countries, but Asia remains the industry’s core. By 2025, efficiency, automation, and sustainability increasingly shape how phones are made. sources: data: World Bank editor: capcut thumbnails: canva/photoshop Top Producing countries: Finland South Korea United States China India Vietnam Indonesia Taiwan Japan Sweden Germany Malaysia Thailand Russia Mexico Canada Spain Brazil Turkey Denmark North Korea Bangladesh UAE Tunisia Latvia Hong Kong Saudi Arabia Singapore Slovakia Austria United Kingdom France Philippines Pakistan Italy Netherlands Poland
