#kant #philosophy #morality Let's read one of the most challenging works in all of moral philosophy: Kant's Groundwork of the Metaphysic of Morals (Part 1 of 3). Here, we go through the Preface and Chapter 1. In this work, Kant attempts to give an account of morality as such, and connect it within the broader context of his inquiry into the faculty of reason itself. Come one and all to discover the categorical imperative for yourself and learn why you really shouldn't ever tell a lie! (Really! No exceptions!) This one's a doozy. This isn't a "quick and easy summary"---it's a slog, but rewarding, I think. You will probably be smarter by the end of this video, or at least you will understand the Groundwork better than you did at the beginning of this video. (These might actually be the same thing.) You can read the version I'm using from the site, Early Modern Texts, linked below, which has generously given me permission to use the versions of philosophy texts prepared by the late Johnathan Bennett, for the purposes of these videos: https://www.earlymoderntexts.com/asse....
