“Through robots, I wish to realize the futuristic worlds often portrayed in movies”. This vision led Wong Choon Yue, an expert in human-robot interaction, to develop social robot EDGAR. The celebrated host of Singapore National Day Parade 2017, EDGAR is a perfect example of his mastery of fusing aesthetics with robotics. In this talk he shares his desire for our society to keep making makers. "Makers are a special breed", he contends, "they always start small, but often they change the world, one innovation at a time." Dr Wong Choon Yue is currently a Research Fellow with the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. His work deals with interface design and human-robot interaction. His passion lies with the design and implementation of innovative as well as aesthetic robotic systems. Recently, he developed a humanoid called EDGAR which was one of the hosts on the National Day Parade 2017 This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
