A lasting commitment to sustainability at Shiv Nadar University

Since our inception, we have strived to build a campus that is sustainable. And over the years, we have seen our efforts slowly come to fruition. Whether it’s maintaining a zero-waste campus, initiating ambitious tree-planting programs, or using renewable energy, it has been wonderful to see how far we’ve come. This short visual journey is a testament to our commitment and a deep belief in sustainability, which is a work in progress. “We have an ongoing biodiversity assessment and conservation exercise, plans to create a nature reserve, and so much more. We have an ambitious tree-planting plan. Our current strength is 14,000 trees and we are working towards 20,000,” says Dr. Ananya Mukherjee, Vice-Chancellor. “We planned holistically, right from the beginning. This was done with the help of horticultural architects who chose what tree species to plant and which avenue so that we get different colored flowering patterns throughout the year in different seasons. In addition, the Shiv Nadar University (Institution of Eminence) Lake and date palm grove have made the campus so beautiful and contributed to its biodiversity. This green growth takes care of environmental pollution, cutting down dust and gaseous pollutants. The buildings are constructed based on green technology while the campus itself is zero-waste. These practices are followed by all our staff and students,” says Dr. Jyoti Sharma, Professor, School of Natural Sciences (SoNS), and the main mind behind the sustainability program.
