#HowieCombrink #JacarandaFM #Live Howie Combrink performs his new single 'The City', live acoustic, exclusively for Jacaranda FM After a 2 year break from releasing his own music, Howie Combrink is ready to drop his new single ‘The City’ on the eve of his wedding Best known for his chart topping singles like Believe, Don’t be sayin goodbye, Change and Sweet Sunshine, Howie Combrink is finally ready to release his brand new single ‘The City’. After spending the last few years touring hard with South Africa’s premier acoustic band Watershed, Covid 19 forced Combrink to stay at home for lock down and address his own music again. The City is a song written about his wife to be and it is a message that he would like to share regarding how he felt being trapped in a house for 3 months and having to cancel his wedding booked for Seychelles in April 2020. Combrink explains what the city is about in his own words. “The city is a song I wrote as a message to my fiancé. I wanted to tell her in a musical way what we can expect together once we get out of lockdown. Now on the eve of our wedding scheduled for 21st November 2020, I finally get to firstly, marry the love of my life and secondly, release one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written. The song has a slight Latin feel to it and the reason being is because I wanted it to feel like we are away from home and on a wild adventure walking through life on planet earth. Everyone felt trapped during the lockdown and I think the message, Hold on, everything is going to be alright, is what people need to hear in a time like this. The song is a tribute to my wife and it best explains the adventure we have lying ahead of us. I hope the listeners can relate and use the message of the song to uplift their own spirits in a strange time like this” The city is a very personal release for Combrink, if not the most personal piece of music he has released to date. After spending weeks behind the Piano, Combrink finds himself sitting on a bunch of new music. Combrink plans to record all his new music in his own studio called The Hit Lab in Johannesburg throughout 2021. The song showcases a new sound for Howie despite it still resembling the earlier ‘world music’ sounds on his previous single Sweet sunshine. 6 years after releasing his debut album ‘eat it while it’s hot’, it’s no surprise that Combrink has grown as a songwriter, producer, and more importantly, as an artist. His emotive nature is truly evident in this feel-good party banger and having a background in studying world music, you can hear the influence. Combrink has changed but for the better. Although Combrink’s involvement with Watershed is long-standing and permanent, he plans to get the Howie Combrink Train back on its tracks in 2021 with a bunch of new tracks coming soon. The City is very clearly the most personal and emotive piece of music he has ever released and it’s only the start of a whole new sound and energy coming from the Combrink camp and 2021 couldn’t come sooner for this talented multi-instrumentalist so sit tight and hold on, everything is going to be alright.
