SOUNDBITE (French) Ludivine Milin, French Olympic team suporter: “There are all nationalities here, you can talk to everyone, it's a great atmosphere. We represent our country, each of us representing our own country. We're happy that there are victories elsewhere, of course. I prefer if France wins in all events, but sport comes first, it's the Olympic values that are here. Mutual support, sharing, that's what she said yesterday at the ceremony, by the way. And seeing the athletes produce what all that effort produces. They're here, they have to be present, but behind the scenes, beforehand, it's really about everyday life and believing in their dreams. And that's also the Olympic spirit, it's that we are all from the whole world, from all countries, and believing in our dreams.” 4. SOUNDBITE (English) Kylo Harris, Olympics fan from Manitoba, Canada: “We’re for sure hockey fans but we’re going to go check out some curling and skeleton in Cortina, and then we have big air snowboard final. So we chase the Olympics and follow them all the time and pay attention to all the events and so as much as we can track, we are.” 6. Wide of Piazza Castello Fountain in Milan 7. SOUNDBITE (English) Kathi Rose, Olympics fan from San Diego, U.S.: “You know, I think it's the community, the fans, the local(s). People come from all over the world to cheer on their team or their family. And it's just like one big party. And the locals have helped us all along the way. We've gotten lost and they help us, whether we're backwards in the metro, or we're on the wrong road. They've been very, and all the volunteers have been fabulous. Fabulous.” 10. People taking photos and posing for photos in front of Tina and Milo, the Milan Cortina Olympics mascots STORYLINE: A day after the Winter Olympics officially got underway supporters poured into fan zones in Milan, waiting in long lines to buy official Olympics gear and cheering for their country’s athletes. At the fan zone in Milan’s Piazza del Cannone, French team supporters rallied after attending the opening ceremony Friday night. Ludivine Milin, visiting from Lyon, France, said she was inspired to come to Milan after attending her first Olympics in Paris in 2024. She said the most important thing for her, however, was the “Olympic spirit”. American Kathi Rose from San Diego, attending her fourth Olympics, echoed those sentiments, praising the atmosphere and stating it was what had inspired her to attend so many games. In the fan zones, visitors took photos with Tina and Milo, the Milan Cortina Olympics mascots. This will be the most spread-out Winter Games in history: The two primary competition sites are the city of Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, the winter resort in the Dolomites that is more than 400 kilometers (250 miles) away by road. Athletes also will compete in three other mountain clusters besides Cortina, while the closing ceremony will be in Verona, 160 kilometers (100 miles) east of Milan.
