Matsumoto-Nagano Local Train arriving and leaving Obasute Station (JR East Shinonoi Line) (E127系 unit A1 各停松本-長野 列車番号2237M 姨捨駅) 25-Oct-2020 Obasute Station is an interesting station in that it is situated off the main line and trains have to reverse in or out of the station (depending what direction they are going in) using a reversing line situated at the Matsumoto end of the station. Through trains do not actually enter the station but pass through on the single main line. This type of arrangement was used in a number of locations on the Shinonoi and Chuo Main Lines(and some other lines) allowing faster trains to pass slower ones (particularly freight trains) on mountainous stretches where space for passing tracks was limited. The station being on a mountain offers a brilliant view of the Chikuma River Valley and if you are lucky to see passing trains on the through line below.
