This video describes the different types of physical mutagens (Esp Radiations). Based upon their penetration power radiations can be of two types i.e. Non-ionising and ionising. Non-ionising radiations like UV rays can have different types of deleterious effects like pyrimidine dimers, 6-4 lesions and formation of molecules like cytosine hydrate. Ionising radiations like X-rays and Beta rays can penetrate the body tissues, collide with molecules resulting in ion formation and these ions can break the covalent bonds in the sugar-phosphate backbone.
