Scenes from Smile Please, 1924. A man is taking the group portrait of an exocentric family. He is wearing a flash striped suit and straw boater. He is Harry Langdon( in the film 'Smile Please'). He comes out from under the camera and adjusts his tie. A grim looking boy sits with his family, all dressed up. Harry moves to cheer him up for the photograph as the boy pushes him in the mouth and hits him on the head. The boy jumps off his chair( next to a very well trained family dog) and runs to H. The kiss tries to get his attention, pulling at his clothes as H shoos him away. H's trousers then fall to the floor to reveal some silly spotted pants. The comedic father shields the eyes of his wife with his bowler hat. Harry stands holding the flash, looks down at himself, embarrassed. The little boy jumps up and down in delight. H pulls his trousers up. The wife shakes her finger, telling him off with a big grin on her face. The boy proceeds to saw one of the legs off the tripod, pausing amusingly to wipe the sweat from his brow. H moves in to stop him, (having to struggle quite a bit to get the saw from his hand), throws it to one side and tries to look cross. H picks up the boy by his coat as the boy grabs the flash. As H moves away holding the boy, the camera comes crashing down to the floor. H deposits the boy back on to his chair next to his motionless grotesque family and gestures for calm. The boy takes hold of the babies bottle from his mothers lap and smashes it onto Harry's head covering him in milk. The family find this very funny as H stands in shock. A funny reversed- film trick is performed. H walks to the fallen camera, steps on the flash cord and it magically stands up as it was before. The little brat boy pulls at the tail of a skunk, dragging it up some steps and into a room. He picks it up by the tail, throwing it at H and his camera. The skunk hilariously lands in the viewing part and can be seen jumping up and down inside. H moves in unaware and takes his position under the cloth, looking through the view point. H starts gets to work, but soon falls to the ground in a faint, bringing the camera down with him. The dog is seen covering its nose, it reels and then faints, H picks up the skunk by its tail and drops it out of an open window. The skunk falls into an alley next to a goat, which then proceeds also to reel and then faint, hooves in the air. Harry continues to work on the portrait. The man and wife argue. The boy appears through the front of the camera to H's surprise. Big slap-stick moment: The father stands in frustration, punching his wife and she falls to the floor. H comes over to her aid, picking her up, but is ordered to put her back down by her husband, he drops her. In annoyance she stands, making to punch Harry; but he moves and she hits her husband. She hits him with her umbrella as Harry hides behind the backdrop. He nearly gets hit on the other side as the umbrella hits the cloth. This gives him an idea- he picks up the boy, positions his backside next to the cloth, so that he ends up being spanked by accident by his mother. Harry gets his revenge
