Curious Cases of Murder- Crime Compilation News of the Times Episode 356 | 1679-1936 In this month’s crime compilation, we look at 6 curious cases of murder as voted by the team. Diving deep into our vault of stories, we look for cases that were curious by their nature or by the time frame in which they took place. Case 1 1679 00:03:09:03 The naughty reverend Foukes, much admired in his parish, is caught having an affair with a young woman under his care. Things get worse as she becomes pregnant and abortion attempts fail. The death of the infant is horrible. Case 2 – 1809 00:12:27:17 With cunning women being who the average person would go to in a health crisis, the witch could provide both good and evil support. Enter Mary Bateman who promoted herself as a witch, to scam and murder up to 4 people. At her execution, people still expected her to zap herself away. CASE 3 – 1835 00:48:23:19 A really interesting case where two friends, one carrying on an affair with a married man, and the other disliking her husband, come up with a plan to do each other’s murder with a trial run of their chosen murder method used on a child. CASE 4 – 1875 01:19:20:06 A rather horrific crime of a bigamist, who tires of his needy mistress and has found a newer and younger model. His murder of the original mistress is bad enough, but his action upon her body involve burying her in a shallow grave, covering her with lime, resurrecting the body, cutting it into pieces, packaging each body part with the intention of depositing the body part packages around London in a horse drawn cab. Case 5 – 1879 02:11:32:14 Poor Rev Watson only wishes for a quiet life. Such is not his lot with a wife who is unhappy with the modest living he has made. Once he loses his job at age 66 as a school head, the nagging and sharpish comments on his failures increase all the more. And then one day, he snaps. Case 6 – 1936 02:28:55:11 An interesting case from Lancashire involving a medically deemed small person, a wealthy spinster and her terrier dog with a really horrible death for both the spinster and the dog. The case, interesting in itself, also gives a good insight into the life of the disenfranchised at the time. 6 curious cases of murder are this month’s crime compilation.
