Should You Buy The i7 4790 in 2023? - The $40 CPU That Runs Anything

DISCORD:   / discord   CHECK IT OUT -⟩ https://jaindike.com Today we take a look at Intel's i7-4790, the ultimate budget gaming CPU from 9 years ago that still packs a punch today! Despite its age, this processor offers incredible performance in modern games, making it an absolute steal at just $40. Equipped with Intel's fourth-generation "Haswell" architecture, the i7-4790 features advanced technologies like integrated voltage regulation, and Hyper-Threading making it an 8-core CPU. It may not be overclockable, but its base clock of 3.6GHz and single-core boost up to 4GHz make it a powerhouse for gaming. With impressive results in games like Cyberpunk and Halo Infinite, this CPU proves that age isn't a factor when it comes to gaming performance. Don't miss out on this incredible deal that combines affordability and top-notch gaming capabilities! Script (As much as I could fit): Hello everybody and today we're gonna be taking a look at one of best budget gaming CPUs out there! Its the i7 4790, and even though it came out 9 years ago its $40 price point and performance in modern games makes it an exceptionally good deal. Were gonna be taking a look at how it holds up in a few different titles, and Ive got the video split up into chapters if you want to skip ahead, but for now weve got to find out what made this processor so good. The i7-4790, released back in May of 2014, was a part of Intel's fourth-generation “Haswell” processors and was one of the fastest CPUs in the world. `https://wccftech.com/the-ultimate-cpu... Whether you were playing games or using it in a workstation, this processor offered enthusiast performance, with enthusiast pricing. Now, Intel used something called the tick-tock model. No, not the app, its a production model that guided their approach to releasing new processors. Essentially, every microarchitecture change was called a tock, and was followed by a die shrink of the process technology, known as a tick. So as part of the tock phase Haswell brought forth a new architecture, but didnt shrink the lithography like ivy bridge did. As part of this architecture, Intel also released what they called an "integrated voltage regulator" which was placed on the CPU. Previously, the Voltage regulator module, the VRM, was located on the motherboard, but for Haswell intel moved the function to the die which allowed for finer control and more efficient power delivery to the processor. And the 4790 was sure to take advantage of this, offering top notch performance with a power draw of only 84 watts. Unfortunately you cant overclock this processor, but the K variant, which you can overclock, was the first CPU to have a base clock of 4ghz. The non K variant, the one we have, has a base clock of only 3.6GHz but does have a single core boost up to 4ghz. Now, there was a bunch of different versions of this processor, namely the 4790 K, S, and T. The K was unlocked and by far the most capable, the non suffixed verison was the base model we have, while the S and T variants came with lower TDPs and subsequently lower clock speeds with worse performance. So, Id recommend staying away from those. However, they all had 8 mb of L3 cache using Intel smart cache technology. Essentially, it just shared the actual cache memory between all the cores of a multicore CPU. On a related note Haswell was also the first architecture to feature an L4 cache. This was only present on the R variants of a few different CPUs, but goes to show just how advanced the architecture was. Another feature that made this chip fantastic was the inclusion of Hyper-Threading. This allowed for a single physical processor core to behave like two logical cores by executing multiple software threads simultaneously. This greatly improved multitasking performance, and also CPU intensive tasks that utilzied multiple threads. So even though theres only 4 physical cores, logically it acts like an 8 core. But, it had competition: AMD's FX series. Now, back in the day I owned a fx 9590 and based on first-hand experience I can say intel had much better offerings. AMD chips, such as the 8350, did offer more quote unquote cores at a lower price point, but the 4790 had better single-threaded performance and overall efficiency. Also AMD got sued over falsely advertising its FX CPUs, so intel was definitely a better choice. #intel #4790 #i7 #gamingpc #budgetpc #gamingpcbuild #benchmark #4790k #budgetbuild
