I got altitude sickness hiking in the Himalayas! | Explore Ladakh with me | Solo female travel vlog

I went hiking in the Sham valley in Ladakh and got altitude sickness, this is a vlog of my experience! In July 2025 I travelled to Likir, a tiny village in Ladakh known for its beautiful monastery and for being the start of the Sham Valley trek. I stayed with a lovely local family, after spending a few days with them and learning about thier lives and local customs (and food!) I went for a hike with my host Rigzen into the beautiful Sham valley. We hiked from Likir to Saspochey over the mountains and saw beautiful views, monasteries, stupas, lizards and one yak! We filled up our water bottles with icy water from the river (fed by the glacier!) and made noodles (with peas I picked on the farm in my last video!) on a makeshift campfire! After our lunch we attempted to climb the next mountain to the village of Yangthang but I suddenly started to feel unwell and like I couldn't breathe properly, this is when I realised altitude sickness had kicked in! I thought I had acclimatised to the altitude in the Himalayas as I had been there for a week but clearly not! We then decided to hitchhike back to Likir, which proved to be very easy, Ladakhi people are so friendly and helpful! Once we got back I ate some delicious Ladahki food called Timok (a kind of bread made from rice) with a tasty gravy, and watched Rigzen's mum make butter out of milk from their lovely cow.
