Nikhil Kamath and Peyush Bansal invested in this AI startup, and it has failed in just one year. Unikon.ai was started by Aakash Anand, and he is a serious entrepreneur, who had earlier built and sold Bella Vitta Oragnics. And with Unikon.ai, the idea was to build an AI-powered social media platform, where users can get on a one-to-one call with experts, in fields like startups, astrology and mental health. It’s like combining Linkedin and Astrotalk in one. Now, this idea is very simple, but the founder Aakash Anand had a solid background, and also at the time Generative AI, was a big buzzword, and so this helped him raise almost 3 Million dollars from angel investors like Nikhil Kamath and Peyush Bansal. But this idea didn’t work. Firstly because the company couldn’t bring enough experts to attract users to use their website. And my question is, why call yourself a Gen-AI startup if you are getting human experts to answer questions? Where is AI in the entire process? According to company employees, “they didn’t have a clear plan regarding gen-ai, and the founders always spoke about quick exits and they will be a billion dollar company, and every employee will make money”. Anyways, the company has burnt 14 crore Rs in just one year, the founder is pivoting to building a D2C brand. Let me know your thoughts on this? And did you use unikon.ai in the past. Share it in the comments.
