Strategic Summary: RED Horticulture & Wageningen University & Research Collaboration RED Horticulture and Wageningen University & Research (WUR) have formed a strategic partnership to pioneer research on the impact of dynamic LED lighting on young plant development. This collaboration integrates WUR’s expertise in plant physiology with RED Horticulture’s advanced lighting technology, aiming to enhance efficiency and sustainability in horticulture. During this trial Leo Marcelis (Professor of Horticulture and Product Physiology at WUR), Theoharis Ouzounis (Director of Agronomy at RED Horticulture), Britt Besemer (Research & Education Assistant at WUR) and Diana Nacouzi (Researcher Photobiology at RED Horticulture) work closely together to obtain the optimal results. Key Objectives of this collaboration entail: • To Optimize Lighting Strategies: Develop tailored LED light recipes to support plant growth across various stages, • Advance Scientific Knowledge: Address knowledge gaps in young pepper, cucumber, and tomato plant cultivation, • To Improve Cultivation Efficiency: Investigate how dynamic lighting influences morphology, plant quality, and resource use. Research Highlights: • Dynamic vs. Fixed Lighting: Evaluating how flexible light settings improve energy efficiency and plant growth. • Greenhouse & Controlled Environment Trials: Comparing real-world and lab-based conditions for scalable applications. Strategic Impact: • Data-Driven Cultivation: Providing growers with adaptable light strategies to enhance yield and efficiency. • Sustainability & Energy Efficiency: Aligning lighting solutions with environmental and economic goals. • Innovation Leadership: Strengthening RED Horticulture’s position as a front-runner in smart horticultural lighting. This collaboration embodies a shared vision for the future of greenhouse cultivation, where innovation meets practical application, ensuring optimized plant development and sustainable agricultural practices.
