Beware of Consultative "Evaluations" Required by Social Security Disability

Most Social Security disability claimants will be directed to see a Social Security medical doctor or psychologist for a consultative examination at some point during their SSDI or SSI case. As I discuss in this video, most consultative evaluations with medical doctors are often a waste of time as SSA uses industrial clinic doctors who otherwise help workers compensation insurance companies deny claims. Psychologists on the consultative panels, however, are more likely to produce reasonable reports. Consultative evaluation reports have taken on more importance with SSA’s new policies that remove controlling weight from opinions by long time treating physicians. You should be prepared to testify about what happened at your consultative evaluation, especially if the doctor spent only a few minutes with you.
