Tsering clarified the difference between “reincarnation” and “emanation,” noting His Holiness has hinted the next Dalai Lama might even be a woman. Rejecting China's pre-ordained approach, he emphasized that the future Dalai must be selected traditionally, in a free world outside Chinese control. Tsering referenced the Panchen Lama controversy as a cautionary tale, warning that China-installed religious figures lack genuine spiritual influence. He stressed that any government-appointed lama would be politically constrained within Tibet, lacking credibility among Buddhists and Tibetans.
