I check out a selection of cool-looking games from indie creators featured in the charity bundle "No ICE in Minnesota" on Itch. The bundle is raising funds for the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota, so please help out if you can. It's still live for another 18 days from this upload. https://itch.io/b/3484/no-ice-in-minn... Games played: -Hedgeborough, by Matallon. A short, wholesome first-person game about community togetherness and practical actions that can make an urban space more friendly and inviting, and most of all suitable for hedgehogs! https://matallon.itch.io/hedgeborough -Snowdown, by The Bonsai Treehouse. A cool downhill tube-racing game with local multiplayer support and N64-style aesthetics. It's a chill experience about going with the flow, such that you're expected not to move your character much; controlling your direction is a limited resource that must be spent wisely. https://thebonsaitreehouse.itch.io/sn... -Sceptorn, by Ethan's Byproducts. A clever mini-Metroidlike where you play a wizard trying to reclaim your powers. It took me a while to realise it, but the order you traverse rooms forms patterns that give you access to different abilities, it's a very cool idea! It looks and plays nice too. https://ethans-byproducts.itch.io/sce... -Fun Fox's Biscuit Bash, by Kautaruma et al. A fun WarioWare-like, with rapid-fire microgame challenges. Since it was made for a jam, there aren't a huge variety of microgames, but the aesthetic is on point and the mechanic that lets you take modifiers to increase the difficulty in exchange for benefits is interesting. https://kautaruma.itch.io/funfoxbiscu... -Flowerdrops, by Natali Katz. A cute puzzle game where you have to fire raindrops from your cloud character in order to water plants in an arena. The drops use ballistic arcs, reflection, and physics stuff like that which is cool, and the game looks very nice too. https://natikatz.itch.io/flowerdrops -You Donut Get It, by Raccoon Formality. A physics sim game where you move a doughnut around an obstacle course. Surprisingly tricky but with a cool low-poly aesthetic. https://raccoon-formality.itch.io/you... -Speedcat, by fletch. A fast-paced miniature exploration platformer made in Pico-8. You play as a cat, which is always good, and jump around a maze of single-screen rooms to collect all the coins. Lovely stuff. https://fletchmakesstuff.itch.io/spee... -X-YZE, by Chris. A stylish pixelart top-down action game built around bump combat, with a sci-fi setting and a cute furry character. There's also intriguing story bits, but I couldn't get very far before moving on. Very cool though, with smooth gameplay. https://chrislsound.itch.io/x-yze -Delivery, by danielle taphanel. An interesting Bitsy game about a delivery drone in a post-apocalyptic world. The setting is cool, the graphics are nicely detailed, and the story is compelling. https://treelet.itch.io/delivery -Quest for Nest, by chrims1908. Another nice Pico-8 platformer, this one about a flightless bird gathering sticks for their nest in a small but open environment. https://chrims1908.itch.io/quest-for-... -Star Catcher: Heart Master, by Pitter-Patter. An arcadey score game with an interesting mechanic, where you move around the edge of an arena and throw your heart as a projectile into the middle, then catch it as it arcs back out again. Looks nice too. https://pitter-patter.itch.io/star-ca... -Non-Orientable Cicada Crawl, by CSharpGuru. A cool little platformer where you are a cicada climbing out from underground. The screen wraps, but you can invert the screen at the boundary so you can access different platforms. It doesn't develop the concept as much I'd like and there's no music, but it is a jam game after all. https://csharpguru.itch.io/non-orient... -Four Second Forever, by John Cooney. Another WarioWare-inspired game, this one with a large variety of microgames as it's a combination of several previously released webgames. There's a lot of fun, silly ideas in here, with straightforward framing. I didn't get to the boss fight because the keyboard use was hurting my wrist at this point. https://jmtb02.itch.io/four-second-fo... -Hellhole, by Machine Fun Kelly. A nice Donut County-inspired game where you control a hole which grows larger as things fall into it, this one has a clear and forceful ecological message. https://machinefunkelly.itch.io/hellh...
