I describe a Neodymium magnet with high power enclosed in a stainless-steel casing with a ring to hold by a finger for Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation by Permanent Magnet Therapy (TMS-PM). Field of invention: The invention is in pediatric medicine, adult medicine in the faculty of pediatric and adult neurology. I did my own research and found out a new therapy called Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation by Permanent Magnet Therapy (TMS-PM). It is reported for the first time in medical literature. The therapy needs a neodymium magnet. A neodymium magnet (also known as Nd Fe B, NIB or Neo magnet) is the most widely used type of rare-earth magnet. It is a permanent magnet made from an alloy of neodymium, iron, and boron to form the Nd2Fe14B tetragonal crystalline structure. I did another experiment to prove my theory. An electrical coil of copper is taken and both ends connected to the multi-meter to measure AC voltage. Now, the magnet was placed over the copper coil and no electrical impulses were generated. Now I started a TO and FRO movement of the magnet over the coil and significant electrical impulses were generated in the multi meter. The brain tissue is just like the copper coil. If the permanent magnet is placed just over brain, no impulses of electricity are produced. When the magnet is made to move rapidly, then electrical impulses are created inside the brain, leading to brain stimulation. [3] Electrical brain stimulation produces Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) and Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). Both the factors have variety of benefits for the repair of brain tissue. Object of invention: The principal object of the invention is to have a portable, handy and cheap device for transcranial magnetic stimulation of brain and spinal cord. The machine for transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is extremely costly in the range of Rs.50,00,000. The patient has to be brought to the hospital frequently for sessions and per session cost is Rs. 30,000. 30-50 sessions are necessary to have a clinical result. TMS requires an oscillating magnetic field which can only be produced by a huge and costly electromagnet Detailed description: Complete specifications for Neodymium magnet as a device for Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation by Permanent Magnet Therapy (TMS-PM) are as follows: The procedure of applying the magnet on brain and spinal cord is as follows. The therapist holds the magnet in hand by putting an index finger into the ring so that it does not fall during therapy. A drop of lubricating KY jelly is applied to the magnet for its smooth movement over body. The magnet is moved in a TO and FRO massaging movement over the part of the brain and spinal cord to be stimulated. Alternately, a circular clock wise and anti- clock wise movement can also be done for the brain stimulation. Application: The magnetic device is used for brain stimulation in variety of neurological conditions such as Cerebral Palsy, Stroke, Mental retardation, abnormalities of speech, depression and migraines. The magnetic device is used for spinal cord stimulation in variety of neurological conditions such as Cerebral Palsy, Spinal cord injury, Impotence, Transverse myelitis, multiple sclerosis, etc. The Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation by Permanent Magnet Therapy (TMS-PM) and its device magnet are reported for the first time in medical literature. The Neodymium magnet for TMS-PM is commercialized for a reasonable cost of Rs.10,000. The technical advances of my invention over the prior arts are as follows: The best method of performing my invention is as follows: The therapist holds the magnet in hand by putting an index finger into the ring so that it does not fall during therapy. Dr. Sagar Jawale
