Where to Source Inventory for Online

When it comes to sourcing inventory, there are two main ways: online or in-store. As resellers, we do both. For those who live in areas with many thrift stores, in-store sourcing might be the best choice. Here in America, some of the most popular thrift store chains are Goodwill, Savers, Habitat for Humanity, The Salvation Army, and St. Vincent De Paul. Most people are familiar with Goodwill, but not everyone knows about the Goodwill Outlet or "the bins," where items are sold by the pound instead of per item. If you live near a Goodwill Outlet and don't mind getting a little dirty, this can be a great place to source items for volume. But be prepared to throw elbows and compete with other resellers for the best finds. It's not easy work, but the thrill of the treasure hunt is addictive. Savers, also known as Value Village, is another major thrift store chain found throughout the country. However, like Goodwill, they are starting to overprice items, which can be frustrating for resellers. Habitat for Humanity and The Salvation Army are also popular thrift store chains, but we've rarely found anything good to resell at the latter. St. Vincent De Paul, on the other hand, can be surprisingly good for sourcing because Catholics are known for having deep pockets. In addition to the major thrift stores, there are also minor thrift stores and mom-and-pop shops to consider. Prices might be better at these stores, but the potential for really good items is probably lower. Consignment stores are another way to source inventory, and we'll discuss them in more detail later in this course. Other ways to source items include getting free stuff from friends and family, selling things you already own, and liquidation. For those who live in remote areas, online sourcing is the way to go. This is where you can look through all of the online platforms we mentioned in the previous video to find items to flip. We'll delve into online sourcing later in this course.
