'Thank You' co-written by Lauren Balthrop & Maya De Vitry Released June 8, 2022 via Olivia Records Video directed & edited by Lauren Balthrop Filmed in southern France and Nashville by James Paul Mitchell About the song: I co-wrote this song one December morning in 2019 (the before times) with Maya DeVitry. When she got to my house, I started telling her about this deeply painful day the previous week during Thanksgiving. Without going into too much detail, that day brought closure to a relationship that was incredibly hard to leave behind. I had pinned a lot of hopes and dreams on that relationship. She had gone through something similar and thenwhat felt like a therapy session turned into this song about different stages of grief around past relationships. “Someday I’ll thank you, when I’m ready to”. Now having lived with this song and its recording, new meaning has taken shape. The lyrics have come to be a conversation with myself and learning to love and let go of my own disappointments. Lyrics: One day I loved you One day I hated you One day I believed you The words sounded true Someday I’m sorry Someday I’ll forgive you And someday I’ll thank you When I’m ready to There must be a place Between broken and walking A place to begin A place with no end There must be some time Between you and I There must be some grace Where the road has to bend There must be a wind Between gentle and wild Fanning the flame Under my feet There must be a dream Where we fall like a child And heal with the morning With the bitter and sweet Between sand and stone The loud and the quiet Between pain and hope That’s where I am That’s where I’m growing
