THREE ARRESTED BY STATE HOUSE ANTI CORRUPTION UNIT IN LIRA | POLICE FIRED TEARGAS AT JERUSALEM

POLICE FIRED TEARGAS AT JERUSALEM SCHOOL Police in lira today fired teargas to disperse students of Jerusalem school of health science. The students were protesting the arrest of their director Mr Peter Okodo whom State House Anticorruption Unit had gone to pick together with two other government officials alleged have participated in a fraudulent sale of public land in Lira City. Arrested were Joseph Ocen Alwongo the district senior Land Management officer, Basil Opio Eram the chairperson Area Land Committee Ojwina Division and Alex Opio a Jerusalem Staff who presented himself to the unit as the director of school Mr Peter Okodo. The North Kyoga Polic Spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema confirmed the arrests and said the trio were transferred to Kampala to be charged at the Anticorruption court for issuing fake Land Titles However, while at the school police had to engage the students who began pelting stones at the officers carrying out the arrest. The director of the school Peter Okodo who is said to have bought the land fraudulently escaped the arrest as one staff presented himself in his names. In the recent past there has been several arrests of government officials in Lira district over irregular disposal of public land within Lira city.
