The average daily ridership of Bengaluru Metro is 10 lakh, mainly the common public, students and employees from the IT and BT sectors. When the @OfficialBMRCL increased metro fares, it made Bengaluru Metro the most expensive in the country. In contrast, @DMRC’s fare hikes have been reasonable and affordable, with a maximum increase of only ₹4. A common metro user, traveling more than 25 km from his residence to work has to shell out almost Rs 90 per journey, excluding additional costs for first and last-mile connectivity. This unfortunate situation is discouraging the adoption of public transport & incentivising private vehicles. But on what basis was this hike implemented? Despite taking a stand before the Hon'ble High Court that the Fare Fixation Committee (FFC) report would be made public, BMRCL has failed to do so. I once again urge both the state govt and BMRCL to release the FFC report forthwith. Public interest is paramount.
