Peter Ablinger (1959–2025) Die schönsten Schlager der 60er und 70er Jahre, for ensemble (2012/16) ensemble recherche World Première, 16 October 2016, Donaueschinger Musiktage '16 Remembrance and thanks: This piece is dedicated to the memory of Armin Köhler, being one of his last commissions. No other curator so frequently gave me the possibility of presenting my work at the highest possible standard. I would like to think that Armin Köhler would have enjoyed my piece. For the idiots (which we all are): This piece, however, is also dedicated to a quite specific generation, or the memories, not to say the residues of hazardous waste, in the brains of this (my) generation. Few pieces of mine are purly acoustic and traditional in their instrumentation. I wanted to create something that seems completely harmless, simply like music, with noticeable but not elevated structural ambitions, something that seems content with itself - but is really something else altogether ... Competition: In the six sections of the piece, six famous hits of the 60s and 70s have been hidden in anamorphotic fashion. Try to spot the hits! The six entries with the most correct answers will win a signed CD or LP from me. The deadline is the 24th October 2016 (one week after the world premier and the live-transmission on SWR2).
