The Knickerbockers (Ben Selvin’s Orch. ) – Titina, Fox-Trot /Shimmy from the „Puzzles of 1925” (Deniderff, Bertal-Maubon & Ronn), with Incidental singing by Franklyn Baur, Columbia 1925 (USA) NOTE: One of the biggest hits in pop music history, the French song "Titina" is played by one of the most popular American dance bands of the jazz era. Ben Selvin recorded for dozens of different record labels during his productive career in the music industry, using a different band’s name for each label, with The Knickerbockers being one of his first aliases. Ben Selvin was a violinist born in New York City in 1898 who, over the course of three decades, achieved the title "Dean of Recorded Music." Selvin recorded more sides of music on 78-rpm records than any other person in the 20th century, and his output is estimated at 13,000 to 20,000 song titles, beginning with "Dardanella," a 1919 hit that sold over 6 million copies and an additional million of sheet music. On the day of his retirement, March 14, 1963, Selvin was awarded a Golden Disc from the Recording Industry Association of America.
