It's Tip Tuesday and we are knee deep in gardening. Manure compost/Worm casting compost tea is a versatile foliar or soil drench organic fertilizer, pest, and fungus controller that can be applied throughout the year. The ingredients are a well balanced blend of nutrients and food for both beneficial fungi and bacteria in the soil. It's effective on many pests because of certain microorganisms that exist in it naturally that will feed on the "bad guys". The aeration promotes aerobic activity so microorganisms multiply. Make sure your manure (chicken/cow) is fully cured/composted as the nitrogen can burn plants. Goat and Rabbit manure can be applied directly to plants. Apply the concentrate as soil drench or dilute 1 cup manure/worm tea in 1 gallon water (should look like ice tea) for foliar spray on transplants or dilute 1 to 1 (1/2 gal concentrate to 1/2 gal water) to use year round for your fertilizing routine. During growing season, apply fertilizer as foliar spray or soil drench every 2 weeks or as needed. Use on roses for black spot, or fruit tress that show signs of fungal or insect pests. Apply foliar spray during a dry and cooler time of day so has time to be absorbed and not steam the leaves in hot temps. Spray dry leaves tops, bottoms, and trunk to point of dripping from leaves. For added insect control (fire ants and more), add some orange oil (1-2oz per gallon) and garlic tea to the mix. Add more fungal control by soaking 1/2 cup cornmeal in 1 gal water (1-2 days) strain solids and add to 1 to 2 cups to your compost tea. #composttea #fertilizer #organicgardening #organic #growyourownfood #gardening #texasgardening #homestead #texashomestead #easttx
