Estonia's location between the two largest record factories in the world at the time, which were located in Riga and St. Petersburg and run by the state-owned Soviet record company Melodiya, as well as its proximity to Finland and the associated influence of Estonian artists with Western music available through Finnish television and radio, created a unique blend of contemporary Western influences and the pre-existing Estonian music culture.
