A questioner wants to know if her understanding of the inward and outward-facing paths is correct. With the inward-facing path it seems easy to apply the idea that meditation is not what we do, but what we are. But how do we approach that with the outward-facing path or in our daily lives where we are required to be more active? Rupert says in the inward facing path we turn away from the objective content of experience to recognise that we are prior to them. In the outward facing path we turn around to contemplate the objects of experience as this presence of awareness. It's not really a doing, it's more a contemplating. The contemplation that we do in the yoga meditations would be the first step. The next step is out in the world. That is obviously more active than just contemplating the objective content of our experience. But In theory there's no reason why it should feel any different from meditating in your chair.
