With regular vigilance, you can help your pumpkin, squash, or zucchini plant organically (without BT or diatomaceous earth) survive the pesky garden pest: squash (or stink) bug (which not be confused with the squash vine borer). The adult squash bugs are shield shaped and leave a stink when disturbed or crushed. In my video, I’ve managed to capture evidence of squash bug egg clusters, nymphs and grown nymphs in a single frame. Eliminate the part of the plant with eggs on it (or remove eggs - you can crush for extra measure). If the eggs hatch undetected, you’ll notice yellowing of the leaves, dying leaves, or wilting of leaves during the hottest part of the day as the squash bug nymphs suck the life out of plant leaves. Currently pumpkins and squashes are the focal point of my 1st year front yard garden (3 years as a self-taught gardener prior) while also serving as ground cover; I am motivated to keep them alive and thriving! I’ve been checking on them daily or every other day. -Your scrappy urban gardener located in North Texas, who dares to garden in the front lawn #gardenpests #beginnergardener #growyourownfood #organicgardening #squashbug #zucchini #squash #pumpkin #cucurbit #growagarden
