Sheep Trail Part 3: Living with Peruvian Herders in Montana’s High Alpines 🐑🏔️ In the final part of our Sheep Trail series, we spend our second day on the trail and witness the most breathtaking and humbling part of the journey. We join another band of sheep high in Montana’s alpine country and help move them into their summer grazing grounds. Along the way, we sit down with the Peruvian herders — the men who live with the sheep day in and day out, camping beside them, protecting them from predators, and guiding them across rugged terrain. Their bond with the flock, along with their teamwork with 2 livestock guardian dogs and 3–4 herding dogs, is the heart of what keeps this centuries-old tradition alive. After 48 hours on the trail, we share our final reflections on what it means to walk alongside the sheep, the herders, and the ranching family who makes this possible.
