Leaves have fallen to the ground and it was raining yesterday so as I listened to some old songs I thought this old sad one was fitting to the fall weather. From the J-files .. originally uploaded to this channel on Feb 29, 2012 and on julanenova channel in 2011.... with kind permission from Rebecca and Hal Bynum. After much confusion as to who wrote this song, I finally have the correct info: Hal Bynum. In a publishing deal George Jones' name was added when he cut it in 1962. From Wikipedia: Harold Lynn Bynum was an American songwriter associated with the outlaw country movement in the 1970s. Bynum wrote more than 200 songs for popular country artists, including Kenny Rogers, Johnny Cash, Cash and Waylon Jennings, Jim Reeves. "The Old, Old House" has been covered by very many including George Jones, Bill Monroe, Ralph Stanley and the Grateful Dead. Some of the words vary from one version to another, and I know I sang a few of them wrong. I heard it for the first time by local musician Allan Spinney on YT and loved his rendition. ♬‧*˚✧♬•*¨*•♫ღ Capo at 5th fret: G C D Old, Old House (written by Hal Bynum) There's an old old house that once was a mansion On a hill overlooking the town Where time's left a wreckage where once was a beauty And soon the old house will tumble down. Chorus When the leaves begin to fall in the autumn And the raindrops drip from the trees There's an old old man who walks in the garden And his head is bowed in memory. They say he built the mansion for the love of a woman And they planned to be married in the fall But her love withered in the last days of summer And the house stood empty after all. Repeat chorus.
