Durium records were embossed into a clear thin plastic and glued to a cardboard base. They were sold by newsagents and issued weekly through 1932 and part of 1933 for one shilling each (5p, less than half the price of equivalent conventional records). They were single-sided but contained two items, with the grooves smaller and recorded at a lower than normal level to get more onto the disc.Though credited as the 'Durium Dance Ensemble' (or band) the recordings were mostly of various existing groups, though this particular one may be a pickup group, including Nat Gonella (trumpet), Paul Fenoulhet (trombone), and Al Bowlly (vocal): arranged by Lew Stone. Now, what rhymes with 'Virginia'? Recorded 1 April 1932. The record is too warped to play now, but fortunately I made a copy some fifty years ago using an old-fashioned heavy electrical pickup which used steel needles: the quality is remarkably good.
