You just witnessed me beating POD for the very first time! I used to play it when I was a child, for a while, back in the late 90s with my then-best friend, who was also my neighbour, living right in front of me, along with Half-life, Quake, Hexen, Unreal Tournament and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, haha good times! Until he moved away, which is always a shame. Anyhoo, watching youtube as I usually do, I came accross a video by LGR reviewing this game. I got a nostalgia trip immediately, which was so weird because I had little recollection of it at the time. But I've reminisced, and it's all kinda hazy, however, so I decided to get the game, and, as soon as I felt that atmosphere hit me again, I knew I had to speedrun POD... So, here it is! And the soundtrack, omg, it's so weird because it is a single track looping in each race, but it just merges so well with the gameplay. It's hard to explain, because it does get old eventually, but I didn't want to turn it off, ever! Anyways, POD on Hard is a unique experience... Extremely exciting stuff, but I wish it was a little bit more fair. You just have to put Acceleration and Speed on 100, otherwise you simply won't be able to keep up with the other cars. But they're still a tiny bit faster than you nonetheless, and if you make any sort of major mistake, it's pretty much guaranteed that you won't get to 1st place... either that, or you just have to be lucky like if the ai gets sloppy with the driving or ends up crashing, losing health and having to make a pitstop... And I haven't even mentioned that they block you so you don't overtake them! It's so annoying because most times they break suddenly, and then you give them a big bump ahead, and you get to a complete stand still in return. It's just so much fun, because I'm so competetive, and if they were real players, I'm sure it would have been a reliable strategy to stay ahead, while playing with other real people. But not all the time, ffs! I had a lot of fun indeed. I practised a bit once I got back in the game, but most of the races I had beaten for the first time here, since I didn't own POD back when I was a kid. Btw, the reason why I changed difficulties in the beginning, is because, when playing on Hard or Normal for a while, there's a bug that reverts all vehicles back to invulnerable, and Hard even prevents you from changing the damage model in the first place, so changing the difficulty is the only way, as far as I know, that guarantees that it will work as intended.
