After learning this game last week and doing a clear at the arcade, I decided I should have a high quality run on my channel for you all to enjoy. Blade Master is fun and easy to pick up. The gameplay is pretty simple; you have your basic slash, a a jumping slash, and finally a very useful jumping downward stab that releases projectiles on impact. There's also a parry move that occurs when your sword clashes with an enemy blade. I think this move is the inspiration for the Japan region name of the game "Cross Blades". After clashing, pressing attack quickly afterwards will follow up with a strike that the enemy can't avoid. The main challenge comes from the bosses, at least until you learn their patterns. They do still hit hard, though. For example, the giant armored axe knights take 50% of your health with their close range kicks (see 6:11). Additionally, the final boss only has one guaranteed opening at the start of the fight, and it's a total BS fight if you mess up and don't trap them overlapping each other. This run was played on a MiSTer FPGA device using direct video 1 mode; meaning the MiSTer sends the original 240p signal (over HDMI) to the RetroTink 4K and then the Tink scales it for output to the display / capture device. In my opinion, the results are outstanding - please view in 2160p60 to see what I mean. :) Default settings were used (normal difficulty, 2 lives to start, 1 extend at 300k points) and can be see at 30:12 of the video. Autofire was not used for this gameplay. A small quirk I noticed...the high score board seems to get corrupted if you use the menu option to reset the game. Normally a 1cc score would be plenty to make the in-game leaderboard, but it didn't even ask for my initials after the ending scene! Thank you so much for watching, I really appreciate it. #retrogaming #longplay #misterfpga
