The Zweig Project is an attempt to explore Stefan Zweig's experience of emigration out of Europe, while still embodying "the ultimate European" and reclaim it for our own story of migration; of tearing yourself apart, being in one place, in one culture, in one language – and yet experiencing a different timeline, where one is still in the old place, culture and language. We let our voices and images wander through time and space and collide with those of Stefan and Lotte Zweig transforming into a melange of uncertainty regarding who is speaking and when it is taking place. In reading letters written to elements in the world of today as well as the world of yesterday, poems and songs performed out of Zweig's time and into ours, we will try to conjure and juxtapose the two worlds as a commentary on a broken present. The text and poems composed and written by Tomer Dotan-Dreyfus, a Haifa-born, Berlin-based author and translator ("Birobidschan", "Meine Forschung zum O"), the songs will be performed by London-born, Berlin-based soprano Susanna Hurrell. Piano: Daniel Gerzenberg. This performance will be mostly in Germany, with an introduction in English. This event is part of a three week long exhibition series by LABA Berlin, a creative fellowship program exploring contemporary Jewish culture in Germany. video by Fritz Tsai
