Myanmar's ousted lawmakers declare 'people's war' against military
There are fears of renewed violence in Myanmar, with ousted lawmakers declaring a "people's war" against the military. The National Unity Government (NUG) has asked civilian supporters to specifically target soldiers and their assets, starting Sept 7. In May, the NUG formed a civilian army called the People's Defence Force. So far, at least 8,000 civilians have been trained. They are joined by some 1,500 soldiers and policemen who have defected and pledged loyalty to the NUG. The NUG has urged citizens to stay indoors for their safety, and called on the people to revolt against the army.
