● HELLO, AND WELCOME to my YouTube Channel! Come join me for a song or two, and if you enjoy what you hear don't forget to hit those "Like" & "Subscribe" buttons if you haven't already! ● INCREDIBLE SONG FACT: Jackson Browne was just 23 years old when he wrote "Doctor my Eyes" in 1971. ● ABOUT THIS SONG: 1971 was also a very turbulent time filled with social unrest in these United States. The war in Vietnam continued to drag on with no end in site, often leading the news each night filled with horrible images. Inflation and unemployment were both surging. Massive political protests were happening as well, in both Washington D.C and around the rest of the country. It has often been said that history doesn't repeat itself, but it certainly does rhyme. I was reminded of this fact very recently. These iconic lyrics Jackson wrote all those decades ago came flooding back to me when I saw the horrifying images from Minneapolis leading the national news, but was shortly thereafter instructed by others not to believe what I had seen with my own eyes. Rather, I was given a much different narrative from the events that I had seen-- one which didn't jive whatsoever to what I'd repeatedly seen on video. So I did what many others did... I watched & re-watched, even in slow motion-- each time in absolute horror of what I was viewing! It was at that moment that I wished I could somehow "doctor my eyes," not seeing what I felt I'd actually just witnessed. During these times of such national division and unrest, I'm reminded of the fact that we've certainly faced other turbulent times in our nation's past, although arguably not as uncertain as the times which we as a nation seem to currently find ourselves. What DOES help me however, is music such as this. It serves to remind me that I am not alone in my feelings... that many, many others feel the very same way as I. And it is from this fact that I can ultimately not just find solace, but actually take strength, not doubting my own eyes and ultimately, my feelings and beliefs. My deepest hope is that ultimately, "this too shall pass," and we can all truly become much more "United" (rather than divided) once again.
