https://www.buymeacoffee.com/TJH3113 Someone suggested this one a while back and I'd never heard it before. I checked it out and immediately liked something about it, though I'm not exactly sure what that "something" is. I think the bass-line is cool and the song is just really different. If it was you who made the suggestion, please step forward and accept credit... or blame. I've been posting a lot of videos with this Spector "Pulse" lately, but all of those were recorded after having some modifications done to the bass. I recorded this video shortly after buying it, while the bass was still "stock". There may be some conjecture as to whether the "Tone Pump Jr" preamp is "boost-only" (as opposed to cut and boost) or not, but that’s how I perceive it. This video also highlights the reason I try to remember to turn my microphone off when I'm playing. Depending on the part, I will sometimes moan or grunt. I'm not sure why, but I just do. This was discovered many years ago when recording a demo tape with a band I was in. Something had happened to one of my bass tracks, so the guitar player (who was engineering the recording and lived a distance away in south Jersey) actually brought his 8 Track reel to reel to band practice so I could re-record the one song. I've always been fairly well rehearsed and knew I could do it in one or two takes. The engineer and I were the only ones with headphones on, so only we could hear my bass or the track that I was playing to. Partway into the song I happened to look up and could see everyone laughing. Of course I was distracted, so I stopped and said, "Once more from the top." I assumed that someone must have farted or something juvenile like that. Next take, same thing happened again. Once again, the same thing. By this time, on top of being distracted and frustrated, I was becoming self-conscious, which, for me, is a very short trip. Next take, instead of laughing, I saw one guy's lip quivering, another guy putting his hand up to cover his mouth, and another guy turning his back to me and obviously guffawing. Finally, I said, "What's so funny?" They told me about the moaning and groaning, but I didn't believe them. I forgot how they convinced me that I was making these noises, but they did and I made them all leave the room. Anyway, I can't imagine what Lynn thinks is going on in here while I'm playing. "That's Really Super, Supergirl" by XTC off of their "Skylarking" album which came out in 1986 and featured Colin Moulding on bass. Portions of the album were recorded, not far from where I live, in Woodstock, NY at Todd Rundgren's studio. Todd produced the album. Also, Tubes drummer, Prairie Price played drums!
