On a quiet warm last day of Winter, the spectacle of the Pichi Richi double header steam train slowly leaving the station at Wool-Shed Flat (over the magnificent steel framed bridge), winding its way towards Quorn is something to see. The first Loco, NM25 left Port Augusta earlier hauling the Afghan Express. The second Loco, Justin Hancock, (W22), hauled the Pichi Richi Explorer earlier from Quorn. The two loco’s meeting at Wool-Shed Flat to form a double header steam train, hauling all the combined carriages, back to Quorn. The well patronised event forms a photographers delight and even after all the years of running the event still draws many eager enthusiasts to partake of the trip. The practice of following the loco’s back to Quorn has become an event in itself, as can be seen in this video. Of interest, on this day, 30 September 2017, was the day the 'Crows' football team played the 'Tigers' for the finals in Melbourne, hence the chalk tributes and scarf on the front of the lead Loco NM25. I hope you enjoy, once again, the special event that is ‘The Double Header’ from Wool-Shed Flat back to Quorn. The reason for the unplanned emergency stop, mid track, is still unknown.
