Many people today believe that the solution to stress sadness or fear is to force the mind to be positive. This idea has become so widespread that people are beginning to fear their own thoughts and emotions believing that feeling negative is dangerous or harmful. In this talk, Dr. Shyam Bhat addresses the misconception of forced positivity and explains why trying to suppress so called negative thoughts and feelings often leads to greater suffering rather than relief. The discussion explores the difference between thoughts and feelings from a neurological and psychological perspective. Feelings are non verbal mind body experiences that involve the entire physiology. They are designed to prompt action and are essential for survival. From the brain’s point of view there are no bad feelings. All feelings carry meaning and value. Thoughts on the other hand arise from the cognitive brain and often form narratives about feelings. While thoughts can be examined and gently rebalanced, feelings cannot be forced away. When emotions are suppressed or policed, they do not disappear. Over time this suppression can lead to anxiety emotional numbness and psychosomatic symptoms such as fatigue pain insomnia and tension. This talk emphasizes that healing does not come from dividing the mind into positive and negative. It comes from learning to feel accept and process emotions while observing thoughts with clarity and balance. Drawing from psychology neuroscience and Eastern contemplative insights, the session points toward a more compassionate and realistic way of relating to the inner world. Dr. Shyam Bhat also reminds listeners that seeking professional support when emotions feel overwhelming is a sign of strength not weakness. In a subsequent video, Dr. Shyam Bhat will guide a short meditation focused on safely experiencing processing and accepting difficult feelings. –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– To know more, follow Dr Shyam Bhat on: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drshyam_bha...
