The documentary film "Crime After Crime" and the saga of Deborah Peagler have inspired a teen and a State Senator to seek new legislation for victims of domestic violence. After then-fifteen year-old Micaela Mangot saw "Crime After Crime" in 2011, the high school sophomore was so moved by the story of the film's protagonist Deborah Peagler that Micaela organized a screening of the film in her home state of New Jersey, and - while she was too young to vote - Micaela was not too young to urge her state senator to attend. At the screening, State Senator and Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg (D) found herself just as moved as Micaela had been. After seeing the film and discussing it with domestic violence prevention groups, criminal justice attorneys, law enforcement officials, and "Crime After Crime" filmmaker Yoav Potash, Senator Weinberg proposed new state legislation on behalf of victims of domestic violence and wrongful incarceration.
