https://neurologyofcannabis.com I heard that there’s part of the cannabis plant called terpenes or terpenoids. Is that true? What part do they play in therapy? Hi. I’m Dr. Dan Stein and I’m going to address that question today. In the cannabis plant, there are different molecules. There are cannabinoids like THC and CBD. There are also terpenes like Linalool. These terpenes are aromatic compounds that not only produce the aroma of cannabis but also have important biological effects. These effects are important as part of the whole plant medicine that we practice here in the clinic. Linalool, one of the molecules that are found in the cannabis plant, is also found in lavender and has an aromatic scent that’s floral. Well, it turns out that Linalool also produces a calming effect or a relaxation and that effect was identified many, many years ago in folk medicine where people would use lavender to help them relax. I even heard a story of lavender pillows that people would put on their eyes at night to help them relax and have a restful sleep. Well, in cannabis therapy, that molecule Linalool is found in certain varieties and can be used as part of the whole plant medicine variety that we want our patients to use when they need a relaxation effect. So as part of your quest to find the right cannabis therapy, don’t forget about the terpenes. If you want something that’s going to help you relax, talk to your vendors about what cannabis products they have with the terpene Linalool. It’s safe and effective. I know you may have other questions about cannabis constituents or your own therapy. So please feel free to reach out to us here at Neurology of Cannabis.
