🔧 Radon System Gone Wrong: What We Found & How We Fixed It When a homeowner reached out to True Air Technologies (TAT) after their radon mitigation fan failed, they had no idea just how many issues were hiding behind the walls and along the exterior of their home. What started as a simple service call quickly turned into a full system diagnostic — and what we uncovered was alarming. Upon inspection, our team identified multiple serious deficiencies in the original radon mitigation system: ⚠️ The radon fan was plugged into an exterior electrical outlet — a direct code violation. ⚠️ The vent piping was strapped using cut pieces of pipe and looked completely unprofessional. ⚠️ Thin-wall sewer pipe was used instead of Schedule 40 PVC — another major code violation. ⚠️ Inside the home, the vent pipe had no proper support and had become waterlogged, causing the fan to deadhead and fail. Faced with this unsafe and poorly constructed system, the customer agreed to move forward with a phased repair strategy. In Phase One, TAT completely removed the non-compliant sewer pipe and rebuilt the system with precision: ✅ Installed Schedule 40 PVC vent piping for durability and code compliance ✅ Re-routed the system for maximum airflow efficiency and streamlined design ✅ Upgraded to a variable speed radon fan to precisely control airflow and pressure ✅ Hardwired the fan into a proper exterior-rated electrical disconnect switch ✅ Installed a moisture guard above the fan to protect the motor from rain and condensation ✅ Routed vent piping up the exterior wall, around the soffit, and above the roof eave ✅ Secured all piping with galvanized metal pipe clamps for long-term support ✅ Finished with a varmint guard to keep pests and debris out of the system This is what professional radon mitigation looks like — done right, done safely, and done with your home’s health in mind. 📞 Need your system inspected or upgraded?
