August is both a fabulous and challenging month for us gardeners. Whilst an abundance of delights can be found in the borders and the fruit and veg patch, this has been one of the hottest and driest summers on record. Here’s everything I do to make the most of my garden throughout the month. ALAN IS USING: All compost, soil improver and bark from Melcourt - https://rb.gy/f57db8 All tools from Spear and Jackson - https://rb.gy/6wl4lh All Outdoor plants, hanging baskets and accessories for climbing plants from Blue Diamond Garden Centres - https://rb.gy/0ehb4p Water storing crystals from Fothergills - https://rb.gy/rvkrp6 All outdoor furniture, potting bench and planters from Forest Garden (Potting Bench) - https://rb.gy/zpavwq (Table and Bench Dining Set) - https://rb.gy/0ihsne (Rectangular Planter Set) - https://rb.gy/xc93o7 Summer flowering bulbs from Taylors Bulbs - https://rb.gy/pvahhs All watering products from Gardena - https://rb.gy/ud9afv In this video I show you the jobs I do in August to keep my garden looking good and some new projects I’ve taken on to show off my plants at their best: With many perennials growing in abundance, now is a time to take softwood cuttings which can be planted out in pots for next year. Annuals can be displayed in hanging baskets but I’m also adding both a herb basket and succulent basket to my collection this year. In the veg patch, I’m taking advantage of the impressive growth on my strawberry plants to use the runners to create more plants. And finally, with the weather so clear it's the perfect time to complete a new project - a tiny patio garden using simple softwood planters and complementary colours.
