Using a Sand Trap in Buckeye Canyon

I've watched the evolution of advanced anchoring techniques come around over the last decade or so. More and more options are coming out that give us as Canyoneers opportunities to explore the canyons in various ways, be safe and to get into some places that may not have as much of an opportunity to due to lack of anchors (although you could always just bolt the canyons as with most canyon in Zion). The Sandtrap is one of those anchor systems that has evolved and become what it is today. If done correctly it can be an effective and efficient anchor system to use when nothing more than a pot hole of sand presents itself. However, when used wrong or not done right, the Sandtrap can be dangerous enough to cause injuries and death to the person on rappel. While in Buckeye canyon, it was required that we use the Sandtrap several times and I decided to pull the camera out and film most of the process. We did have to re-adjust the Sandtrap when I started to go down as it wasn't quite heavy enough, we had to add a bit more sand to that and this was not captured or narrated on the video.
