When you are attacked by someone in the streets, you need to launch effective and devastating strikes to terminate the danger. A great strike option is the elbow. It's powerful, effective and it can be launched from different angles and positions. Something important to point out however when using elbow strikes for self defense, is to not launch your strikes from a far distance. If you do so, it will make your elbow strike way too telegraphic and your opponent will most likely see it coming. Instead, you want to use an elbow strike when you're in close range with your attacker. If for some reason, you ended up clinching with your opponent during the street fight, that might be a good time to launch a solid elbow strike. Another important tip when it comes to elbowing is to not "pull back" your elbow movement because there again, it will be telegraphic and will make it to obvious for your opponent. You want to launch your elbow strike straight forward by minimizing your intentions. As soon as you launch the strike, you need to explode forward and land your strike on your opponent's facial area or torso. This devastating strike is a powerful one to use for your personal safety and protection. Make sure to practice it often during your training sessions.
