Laurie Shaver took the stand in her own murder trial to tell jurors that she is innocent. Shaver testified that she didn’t kill her husband, Michael Shaver, and that it was really her ex-lover, Jereme Townsend. In Laurie’s testimony, she claimed Jereme walked in on Michael abusing her, grabbed a gun from her daughter Isabel — who had ran and found a gun when she also found Michael abusing Laurie — and shot Michael in the back of the head. Jereme testified earlier in the trial stating he never had any altercations with Michael and never shot him. His body was discovered buried beneath a concrete slab in Laurie Shaver’s backyard. In a shocking twist, the couple’s daughter confessed to the crime, claiming she shot her father to protect her mother, who allegedly said he was abusing her at the time. However, in opening statements, Laurie Shaver’s attorney said her lover, Jereme Townshend, shot and killed Michael.
